Lower back pain is very common today in the population, due to excessive work and prolonged postures maintained throughout the day.
It can also be due to problems associated with menstruation (in women), and digestive problems.
A deficiency of yin or yang in the kidneys can also lead to prolonged lower back pain. Kidney stones generate a lot of lower back pain, and of course, needless to say, it can also be caused by a mattress that is not suitable for our weight and is too soft.
On many occasions the pain is due to muscle contractures, and also to herniated discs.
Herniated discs usually occur mainly in the lumbar vertebrae, and are very painful, although they also often occur in the cervical vertebrae. They can also occur in the thoracic vertebrae, but this is less common and usually causes fewer problems. The definition of a herniated disc is: Displacement of one of the intervertebral discs that produces stiffness of the spine and compression of the spinal cord or nerve roots.
Over the years I have treated herniated discs with Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments and on a large number of occasions the pain has completely subsided.
On other occasions it could not be resolved after several months of treatment, due to bone wear, or perhaps also due to lack of follow-through with the treatment, since it is necessary to do a continuous treatment of 2 or 3 sessions per week, until it improves, and with improvement gradually space out the sessions. Many times the patient cannot come so often.
To treat herniated discs, consistency and regularity are needed to eliminate all the irritation and contractures that have been caused by the friction of the disc with the nerve and the pain.
The most surprising clinical case I had a few years ago was with a man in his 40s who came to the consultation with five cervical herniated discs. He also suffered from claustrophobia and felt numbness in his arms due to the herniated discs. In the first session I had to open windows and doors so that he would feel comfortable, I treated his problem with shiatsu and acupuncture.
After a couple of months of treatment the pain and the sensation in his arms completely disappeared. The claustrophobia went away after a few sessions, leaving us both very surprised.
